The sounds of Sanskrit are pure sounds that originated from the pure space of consciousness through the tuned-in minds of sages of the extremely ancient Vedic culture. When the saadhak (one who practices Yog and meditation) repeats them, whether speaking or chanting, the chitt (mind) becomes tuned into the pure source of the sound and becomes purified and elevated through this practice. In this way each sootra is really a mantra expression of the space of meaning that the words are indicating.

The repetition and chanting of the sootras open up in the saadhak the state of consciousness of which the particular sootra is an expression. So, study of the sootras entails intellectual investigation into their meaning along with becoming opened to the original source of their meaning, so that the understanding is not just intellectual but begins to be revealed from the source to which the sootra is a direct access point through sound.

These sacred sounds are revealed through the voice of Brijendra, originally from England and Canada, who has lived in the Himalayas of India for many years. Just listening to the quality of his voice will lead you into the samaadhi states that the sootras reflect and will help you in bringing about the unfoldment of Kaivalya, the Vision of Oneness.

You can follow along with the transliteration and meaning of the Sanskrit that is available in many of the books with commentaries that have been written on this work.

Also included with the audio recording is Patanjali at a Glance, the written introductory overview by Brijendra, which describes the vision of Yog Darshan in an easy to understand form. It is a great way to grasp the essential points of this knowledge and will assist you in the further study of Patanjali.
